Not Available Event Sunday Morning Spirituals In a reprise concert that ranks among the festival's most memorable, souldrenched singer Ruth Naomi Floyd delivers a program of soaring spirituals accompanied by reed expert Bennie Maupin and other musical contributions by Healdsburg Jazz Festival All-Stars. It matters not what faith you may or may not subscribe to, as Floyd brings a welcoming spirit to sacred music that has sustained African-American communities through the hardest of times. With her lush mezzo-soprano, Floyd has recorded a series of CDs filled with praise and glory, which illustrate the historical nexus between the origins of African American faith and jazz. Bennie Maupin is a groundbreaking reed player who served as an essential creative foil for Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock on the some of the most influential albums of the early 1970s. All of these artists are generously donating their talents to ensure the festival's future. Also on hand will be master educator and musician James Newton, who will serve as conductor for this musical journey.
